The data included in this volume is comprehensive and there are nearly 150 statistical statements which present a panoramic view of the growth of the Indian Railway system year by year from 1950 to date. The graphs, bar charts and pie charts included in the volume give a graphic account of the growth of the Indian Railway system making it easy to appreciate and assimilate the various data.
The observations and inferences in the book would, I am certain, provide a stimulating reading for those who are in the profession and others who are serious students of transport economics, provoking them to delve deep into the fascinating world of railways in general and Indian Railways in Particular.

This book highlights, through statistical presentation, almost all the salient characteristics of the growth, operation, capabilities, achievements, contribution and efficiency of the Indian Railway system from the year 1950-51 onwards and wherever necessary also gives comparable figures of information, it should serve as a vade-mecum for all those who are interested in railway transportation, particularly transport economists, research students and railway officers as well as various railway organisations
